Marin Morrison Swim Meet

Apr 28, 2024
(All Day)

Description:

Sponsored by Pacific Northwest Swimming, the Marin Morrison Memorial Swim Meet honors PNS swimmer and 2008 U.S. Paralympian, Marin Rose Morrison.

Our Portland Piranhas will be attending this regional event in Renton, WA.

A promising able-bodied swimmer, Marin was stricken by a brain tumor in 2005. Subsequent resection surgeries left her with hemiplegia (paralysis on one side.) Moving to the Seattle area in late 2005, Marin defied doctors’ prognoses, supported by PNS clubs, Shadow Seals, West Coast Aquatics and Bellevue Club. She continued to train toward her goal of representing the USA at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, earning her spot on the team at the US Paralympic trials in April 2008. Required brain surgery in May, 2008, provided a setback, but Marin persevered and accomplished her goal in September, 2008, swimming the 50 and 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter backstroke events in Beijing. Representing her country and PNS well, this meet serves to preserve that memory of her determination, courage, and example of always reaching for your goal. Marin passed away on January 2, 2009.
