Adaptive Swimming
Youth
The Adaptive Sports Northwest Youth Adaptive Swimming Team, the Portland Piranhas, serves as a transition from basic swimming lessons to a competitive or recreational team environment, with the goal of our athletes being able to compete on a school or club team. The Piranhas offer training so athletes can compete at adaptive swim meets and school/club meets with peers. Both swimming and track & field athletes enrolled in high school may join their school’s team and qualify for Oregon state meets.
Adults
Please contact ASNW for upcoming swimming clinics and training opportunities available for adults.

Who Can Participate
Adaptive Sports Northwest welcomes swimming athletes of all Paralympic classifications, teaching those just learning to train for competitive swimming alongside future Paralympians. ASNW’s Piranhas swim team is for athletes capable of independently completing the length of the pool (25 yds).
For those looking for beginning swim instruction, individual swim lessons are appropriate. While not available at this time through ASNW, lessons are offered through most local Parks & Recreation programs as an Adaptive & Inclusive service.
Athletes must be able to follow sequential commands. Athletes need to be members of ASNW to participate in our sports programming.
Contact Programs@adaptivesportsnw.org with any questions about our Swimming program including eligibility, practice schedule, and athlete requirements.
